Why Is Miley Cyrus Not Vegan Anymore

Veganism is becoming more popular than ever. More and more people are deciding to embrace a partially or entirely vegan diet, whether they are doing so for ethical, environmental, or health reasons. When vegan celebrities like Miley Cirus decide to stop being vegan and start eating meat again, as she did in 2020, the notion that veganism is a sustainable, healthy lifestyle is undercut.
Miley Cyrus has changed her diet and is no longer a vegan, but she has a valid reason for doing so. Cyrus stopped eating vegan because she thought her brain wasn’t working as effectively as it should. Find out what the singer learned by changing her dietary habits.
Is Miley Cyrus Vegan?
Miley Cyrus revealed to followers that she gave up her plant-based diet in favor of pescetarianism in 2020 after several years as an active vegan and animal rights activist who sobbed after eating fish the one time her ex-husband cooked it for her (eating fish but not meat). Cyrus switched because she thought she was lacking in Omega-3 fatty acids.
In an interview with Joe Rogan on The Joe Rogan Experience in 2020, she said that her “brain wasn’t operating correctly.” The music diva has faced criticism from the vegan community after giving up veganism.
She no longer identifies as a vegan after seven years of eating only plant-based foods, dressing only in animal-free clothing, and sharing her vegan beliefs with millions of supporters. Instead, she is now a pescatarian.
Miley’s ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, with whom she divorced in August 2019, fried fish for her first non-vegan supper. She continued: My ex-husband cooked me some fish on the grill. I cried, like, for a long time. I cried for the fish… it really hurts me to eat fish.”
Since increasing her consumption of meat and gluten, the Hannah Montana actress’s health has significantly improved. “Now I’m so much sharper than I was, and I think that I was, at one point, pretty malnourished,” she remarked.
Miley Cyrus’ History Experience With The Vegan Diet
She said that she had bodily discomfort, such as hip pain, and that she wished to alter her diet to enhance her cognitive performance. Miley had previously become vegan in 2013 after realizing how clever fish were, thus, this upset her vegan followers.
Furthermore, there are no particular nutrients present in fish that cannot be obtained from a plant-based diet.
Miley currently identifies as a pescatarian and includes fish in her diet in addition to fruits, vegetables, and other plant-based meals.
She stated that she has felt “far sharper” and that many of her other health issues have disappeared after reintroducing fish and gluten-containing foods to her diet. She said that she understood that she need lipids and protein from fish that “…an infinite number of avocados never could” if she wanted to be able to perform on stage for hours at a time.
Why Did Miley Cyrus Quit Being A Vegan?
Miley has previously made a point of promoting her veganism and nutrition, even selecting fashion houses based on her lifestyle choice. According to Harper’s Bazaar, she became vegan in 2014 and had a vegan wedding when she wed Liam Hemsworth in 2018.
She discussed the causes of her transition on the Joe Rogan Experience. I used to be a vegan for a very long time, but I had to start eating fish and omega-3 fatty acids since my brain wasn’t functioning properly, said Miley. Following the disclosure, Joe made a joke about “not telling it to the vegans,” to which Miley retorted, “I’m used to people coming for me.”
Miley said she feels “so much sharper” now than she did when she was a vegan during their interview. Additionally, she claimed that although some individuals may survive on a purely vegan diet, she was “pretty malnourished” at one time. Because of the possible criticism, Miley admitted that leaving vegetarianism is “really terrifying.”
But she wants people to know that she still cares deeply about animals. She said, “I have 22 animals on my farm in Nashville, 22 in my house in Calabasas, and I’m doing everything I can to care for the animals.” “But when it comes to my brain… you can’t be vegan and be this fast.”
Therefore, Miley now identifies as a pescatarian (i.e. a vegetarian who eats fish). She said, “That’s where I am. But in typical Miley fashion, she’s open to trying alternative diets. “I’m experimenting a lot with my diet, my body, my routine, and my exercise right now,” she remarked.
Does Going Vegan Actually Compromise Your Wellbeing?
For those who make sure they are getting all of the macronutrients and micronutrients they need, such as iron, calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B12, and omega-3 fatty acids, the vegan diet may be a healthy eating pattern. In addition to its excellent effects on health, a vegan diet also has ethical and environmental advantages.
However, if a vegan diet doesn’t seem appetizing, people shouldn’t feel under any need to do so. The evidence suggests that all vegetarian diets, including those that include dairy and eggs, have equal health advantages. It’s crucial to remember that one can practice veganism while also eating a diet high in processed, unhealthy foods.
Although Cyrus claimed she anticipated a bad reaction from the public, dietitians have criticized her for making imprecise and unsupported claims. They worry that because she is a well-known vegan, her choice may have a significant effect.
Miley is hardly the only famous person to abandon the vegan diet.
She has joined other celebrities who have abandoned a plant-based diet, including Anne Hathaway, Simon Cowell, Zooey Deschanel, Channing Tatum, and Ellen DeGeneres.
Closing Thoughts
A vegan diet is inherently deficient in various nutrients such as Omega-3s, calcium, iron, etc which is why you may need more kitchen preparation and planning time than a typical diet to make sure you’re receiving all the nutrients you need whether you’re a seasoned plant-based eater or beginner to the vegan diet, do your homework or preferably consult with a nutritionist.
Although, for some of Miley’s admirers, abandoning something she ardently backed comes as too much of a surprise. They claim they don’t understand why she didn’t come out publicly until a year after deciding to alter her diet.
The simplest way to put it is probably by using Miley’s own words: “I think when you become the face of something, it’s just a lot of pressure.”
